Most of us use internet to check messages first thing in the morning, stream music while doing house chores or simply check social network sites at the end of a working day.
Not only in our private lives do we smart devices, even at work there are often cases where it’s not possible to work without them – devices such as laptops, smartphones, tablets and others, as well as internet which has become an indispensable part of life. But do we think about the negative sides of using the internet? Little do we know that when we use internet carbon dioxide is emitted by moving devices and powering the networks accessed. At this moment there are two types of internet usage – mobile data communication and Wi-Fi.
Owned by Telstra – an Australia’s largest telecommunications information service company, ‘Belong’ released a mobile application app called ‘carbon thumbprint’ which helps to visualize the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by internet usage via mobile data.
