Paper bottles from Coca-Cola!
In August of this year, we posted an article about the wine bottle “Frugal Bottle” made of 94% recycled paper, but it seems that the movement to change the material of the bottle to paper has been progressing since then. It seems that the beverage giant Coca-Cola is doing the same. Coca-Cola Europe announced their first paper bottle prototype.
According to the announcement, Danish-based partner company Paboco, a paper bottle manufacturing and development company, and three companies participating in the paper bottle community “Paboco Pioneer Community” have collaborated to create prototype paper bottles.
“Our vision is to create a paper bottle than can be recycled like any other type of paper, and this prototype is the first step on the way to achieving this. A paper bottle opens up a whole new world of packaging possibilities, and we are convinced that paper packaging has a role to play in the future,” says Stijn Franssen, EMEA R&D Packaging Innovation Manager at Coca-Cola.
A lot of work still must be done to achieve this vision of a recyclable paper bottle. The first-generation paper bottle still contains some plastic.
